Bush to beach, ups` paradise vol. 2

Ola Mosambik!

...sometimes we wish to have our friends down here...

Riding this country means...

...nearly 2000 km potholes with tarmak
- through endless bushland...

...good morning - endless bushland...

...some gravel - through endless bushland...

...a lot of expensive petrol run through our engines...

...to be happy...

...to get "fresh" water from the impressive Zambesi-River...

...and see a great Zambesi-sunset...

...before this roads...

...bring us "straight" from the bush to the beach...

...ups`...

...ups`...

...paradise vol. 2...
We wish you all a merry christmas...!

Malawi...flame of africa...

After "Transania" we are looking forward to take rest in Malawi

...stinky fish, stinky kitchen, stinky shoes...

Malawi remains one of the world`s poorest countries, with a per capita GNP of less than US$250. Nearly half the population is chronically malnourished and life expectacy is only 43 years. The HIV infecton rate is "officially" estimated to run to 12 %. Half of the population is under 15 years...

...one of the 6 mio. kids under 15 years...

...lake Malawi is formed by the Rift Valley, it is the third
biggest Lake in Afrika and coveres almost one-fifth of the country...

There are more than 600 edemic kinds of fishes in the lake,
which we know from our aquariums at home

...life at the beach...

...including food-, washing- and toiletplace...

Roadconditions are various...

...gravel roads with baobab-trees...

...gravel roads in the bushes...

...gravel roads with flame-trees (our christmas-tree for this year)...

...some tarmak, a bridge...gravel road...

Shopping...

...tomatos, onion, eggs and spirits...

Resting, at least...

...at the golden beach...

...and waiting for next challenges...

So let`s go south to Liwonde National Park...

...Shire-River, comming out of the lake Malawi...

...around 6000 Hippos...

...countless crocks...

...and 600 elefants...

...are watching this sunsets every evening...

... and we follow the Shire-river to Mosambik...

...on a shortcut-adventure...

...because Malawi run out
of Coke (no problem)
beer (big problem)
and petrol (real problem)

...so we reached the boarder to Mosambik with the last drops of petrol
and had to pay US$3 per liter at the black market...

...Transania...

After resting for quite a while at Peters`s Villa we have to make
2000 kilometers "Transania"

...so let`s ride...

...the "easiest" way...

...to get stucked again in rain at the muddy treks...

...watched by...

...some strange creatures...

...which were to far away to hunt...

...so we eat the stinky fish...

...from the stinky kitchens...

We spend only 4 nights, so we crossed the country, but did not come in close contakt to the people,
Malawi was calling us to come quickly...

Ups` - Paradise

Nairobi - Mombasa - Ukunda, 700 km, 12 hours driving, ferry no. 4 on our trip...

... here we are...

...with Silvi and Peter...

...at their Villa "Wasili"...

...a perfect place with loveley people, 300 m from the...

...beach...

...life...

Also in pardise you have to repair some things...

..."Fundi" working a new "makuti"- roof at Peters` Villa...

...finishing after 6 days...

!...No pictures from the new-roof-party...!
...but it was great!!!

...ups` next morning...

...after roofparty...

...life is easy in paradise...

Yes,
after suffering in mud and rain for a long time,
after fixing the bikes,
after washing the clothes,
after a very exausting physical and psychical time for us,
this is the place to refill our tanks...

For those, who are interested at the situation of our bikes:
they are working perfectly!

We want to say THANK YOU to Peter - there are people in the world you just look in the eyes and you know you will understand each other easily - and it is an honour to find them!!!

Jambo Kenya!

Good bye Addis Abeba

from Addis south...

we are leaving Addis south-west
in order to cross the remote Omo-Nationalpark to enter Kenya on the Turkana-west-route,
a quite rural area without any services...

...black market petrol-station...

...in the middle of the bushes and rainforest in the mountains we found crazy birds,
baboons, and a lot of half-naked tribes with all kind of weapons in the little villages...

...morning just north of Omo-Nationalpark...

...but we get stucked totally, the tracks were full of water
and the terrain too difficult!

...two hours later...

...so we have to turn back 100 km before reaching the Kenyan border and make
again a lot of kilometers...

...very happy...

...so we have to drive 500 km east and 500 km south through the rift valley on
bad "african secondary roads"...

...crossing the rift-valley...

...and a python...

...to reach the Moyale-border to Kenya and find one of the hardest bars of our live...

..." bordercrossing" ...

...and the hardest pist in our life - Moyale, also called A2 - 500 km Moyale ...
...in rain...
... nothing can be more worse...

...fu.., fu.., fu.....
there were potholes to hide cars in...

...after the first crash, if the mud is not deep "enough" it´s getting slippery like on ice...

...moyale, Jambo Kenya...
...and we had to pay 20 $ roadtax each...

...in the end of the day the rain stopped and we found a save place
near to a police-station in the middle of nowhere

no, not on the northpole...

Second part of the 500 km Moyale"road":
at least the last 50 km of this hell are enjoyable !

...very southern part of the 500 km moyale,
sun, sand, fun - no more rain and mud -  no more hard work :)

Now we are sitting in Kenya - Nairobi, Jungle Junction - overlanders meetinpoint,
we renovated the bikes for 2 days, washed the clothes, try to stay dry...
...here is the "small" rainseason...
and looking forward to rest at the Kenyan beachside a few days...
before crossing Tansania
...to rest in Malawi for a while :)
